Miss USA Tara Conner allowed to keep her title, video of her tearful apology

Adam Goldman, Associated Press, 19th Dec 2006

NEW YORK: Miss USA Tara Conner, who had come under criticism amid rumors she had been frequenting bars while underage, will be allowed to keep her title, Donald Trump announced Tuesday.

"I've always been a believer in second chances," Trump, who owns the Miss Universe Organization with NBC, said with Conner at his side.

Trump said he and Conner had met earlier Tuesday morning.

"She left a small town in Kentucky and she was telling me that she got caught up in the whirlwind of New York," Trump said at a news conference. "It's a story that has happened many times before to many women and many men who came to the Big Apple. They wanted their slice of the Big Apple and they found out it wasn't so easy."

Conner won the title in April and has been living in New York. Recent media accounts of heavy drinking brought a storm of criticism since she was underage at the time. She turned 21 on Monday.

In a tear-choked voice, Conner said, "In no way did I think it would be possible for a second chance to be given to me."

Turning to Trump, she said, "You'll never know what this means to me, and I swear I will not let you down."

Trump said Conner would be entering rehab. A pageant official said details would be worked out privately with Conner over the next weeks.

There's no better way to show mom some love than by showing up for her birthday in an outfit that's one step away from your birthday suit. Go Britney.

The pop diva arrived at Dominick's in West Hollywood in this black lace "dress," which showed off her pink and black undergarments, proving that she does, indeed, actually have some.

He emerged before the housemates from a gift-wrapped cardboard box. Everybody had a gala time belly dancing and cracking jokes with John. In the end, John joined the guys in the swimming pool.

Rakhi's back: The excitement of John's visit was still in the air when the inmates found Santa Claus walking in. Arre yeh kya? It turned out that it was not Santa but Rakhi Sawant, the wild card entrant to the house. She was received with open arms by all the housemates.

Anupama exits: An exciting week in which as many as five contestants were nominated for eviction ended with Anupama being voted out of the house by the audience. Probably, she might find Aryan waiting for her at the door.

NIIFT Professor arrested for obscene SMSes !

Indo-Asian News Service
Mohali, December 15, 2006

A professor at a fashion technology institute here was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sending obscene SMSes to girl students.

K. Krishnamurthy, the head of the textile design course at the government-run Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT), was arrested after some girl students alleged that he used to send them vulgar SMSes.

Police said the professor has been booked for obscenity and for outraging the modesty of a woman. He has been charged under the information technology act as well.

In their complaint to the institute authorities, the girls alleged the teacher used to send them messages expressing his love and even telephoned some of them to express his love.

They alleged that he used to come drunk to the institute sometimes and passed cheap remarks.

The teacher, who was suspended after some students went on strike on Thursday, said that he was not at fault and a few disgruntled students had raked up the charges against him as they had not done well and fallen short of lectures.

He claimed the girls had also been sending him messages on his mobile phone. He said the messages sent by him were as an "advice" to the students.

NIIFT director Vijay Sharma told reporters he had never before received any complaint against the professor.
