Aishwarya Rai Hit With Lawsuit For Marrying A Tree
Aishwarya Rai Indian movie star Aishwarya Rai has been hit with a lawsuit after reportedly undergoing a banned ancient Hindu ceremony in which she was spiritually married to a tree.
The former Miss World, who recently confirmed her engagement to Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan, is alleged to have agreed to the ritual to overcome differences in the couple's astrological charts - disparities which traditional Hindus believe have negative consequences on marriage.
Under this ancient belief, Rai is considered a 'manglik' because her chart bears the planet Mars, and she must be 'married' to a peepal tree, a banana tree or a silver or golden idol of the Hindu god Vishnu in order to overcome the devastating effects being a 'manglik' could have on her impending nuptials.
The 33-year-old now faces a civil lawsuit for practicing the 'untouchability' service, which is associated with the caste system, because such ceremonies are in violation of the Indian constitution and are deemed offensive to women.
The lawsuit was filed in Patna, India by lawyer Shruti Singh, who is calling for Rai and her family to issue a public apology for the 'false marriages'.
The Bachchan family has refused to comment on the allegations.

Ash, Salman patch up ?
The impossible may have happened!
Looks like Aishwarya Rai and former boyfriend Salman Khan have patched up. Or at least come to a truce.
It all took place at the premiere of Baabul on December 6, when the film's cast, Salman, Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, made a grand entry.
Ash -- who has made it a major point to avoid Sallu, films with him and all engagements the actor was attending, after they broke up four years ago -- surprise, surprise, looking very glam in black, came sweeping into the premiere.
The media nearly fell out of their chairs.
A source tells us there was a significant exchange of glances between Salman and Ash. Amitabh was standing by, probably as the broker of peace.
Salman was seen chatting with Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan. Salman obviously gets along better with Abhishek than he did with Ash's previous beau, Vivek Oberoi!
Meanwhile, John Abraham, who also stars in Baabul, arrived at the premiere only after Salman made an exit. No doubt, there is no patch up on that front.

Aishwarya-Abhishek, a married couple ?
Varanasi, November 27, 2006
Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai kept rumours of their impending marriage alive on Monday by performing rituals done only by married couples in two major temples of the city.
The couple, which arrived in the city late Sunday, went from one temple to another to perform the rituals in the dead of night.
A local journalist, who sneaked into the heavily guarded Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the guise of a priest, witnessed the rituals that began at around 3 a.m. and continued till nearly 6 a.m. Two rituals were performed at the temple and one at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple nearby.
"The rudrabhishek puja performed by the duo in the presence of the entire Bachchan family is usually done by married couples only," said a temple priest who did not wish to be identified.
Family priest Chandramouli Upadhyaya, who was the first to call on the Bachchan family at the Taj Ganges hotel shortly after their arrival, told media persons: "The family was here to perform certain prayers on the birth anniversary of Amitabh's father, famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan."
However, when scribes sought to know what Aishwarya had to do with such a closed family affair, he said: "I don't know."
Bollywood's first family arrived here by a chartered flight around 10.20 p.m. and were huddled into waiting vehicles and driven straight to the Taj from the airport's rear gate to avoid inquisitive media persons and cameramen.
Upadhyaya visited them after they reached the hotel. Later, at around 2.30 a.m., senior district officials escorted the family to Kashi Vishwanath Temple where priest Pandit Sitaram Shastri carried out a special mangala aarti for them, which was followed by the rudrabhishek puja.
Besides Amitabh, his actress-turned-MP wife Jaya, daughter Shweta, brother Ajitabh and niece Namrata were amongst those who joined in the prayers. Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, who had arrived with the entourage, was present as well.
At around 4.30 a.m., they left for the Sankat Mochan temple and attended a nearly hour-long aarti there.
They were surrounded by an extremely tight security ring comprising local police and personnel from the Sahara India group.
The entourage returned to the hotel at around 6 a.m. While Abhishek and Aishwarya are scheduled to leave for Agra, Amitabh, Jaya and the others are to flying back to Mumbai, a local official said.

Ash surprised at Rs 13.5 lakh packet
A day after a packet containing 23,000 euros (about Rs 13.5 lakh) addressed to Aishwarya Rai was discovered by the customs department at the Foreign Post Office in South Mumbai, the actress expressed surprise at the news. She said she would sort out the issue with the authorities.
"This is as much news to my family and me as it is to you and the rest of the world. We know nothing," Rai, shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's film Akbar-Jodha in Jaipur, told the television channel NDTV.
"My lawyers and my father will work out the issue with the government officials," she added. "The law of the land will take its course. They will check this, and frankly, I would like to know what it is all about. In matters like this, you (the media) need to exercise a little more responsibility and wait to get facts."
A packet from a man in the Netherlands addressed to Rai, which contained electronic items and undeclared foreign currency, reached the Foreign Post Office a month ago, Customs Commissioner (Imports) A K Prasad had said on Tuesday.
The customs department had 'started a preliminary inquiry,' Prasad added.
Rai's lawyer Girish Kulkarni told PTI in Mumbai, "So far, we have not received any summons or any official communication from the custom authorities. If anything comes to us, we will cooperate with the authorities. "There are a lot of rumours about her coming to Mumbai for questioning, but right now there are no plans of her coming to Mumbai. She is shooting in Jaipur," he said.

Aishwarya Rai gets 23,000 euros (Rs 13.5 lakh) parcel; Customs see red
Syed Firdaus Ashraf, Rediff.com, November 14, 2006 15:21 IST
Aishwarya Rai may be summoned by the customs department in Mumbai after a packet containing 23,000 euros (about Rs 13.5 lakhs) addressed to her Bandra residence in suburban Mumbai was found at the Mumbai airport. The packet arrived from the Netherlands, but the sender's name has not been disclosed yet.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Commissioner of Customs (Import) A K Prasad said, "We have not sent a notice to her formally. We will do that later." Prasad, however, did not rule out that someone may have been involved to gain cheap publicity.
The customs department also did not rule out the possibility that the money may be a part of payment of Aishwarya's shows abroad. The euros were detected in the airport screening.
"We have informed Aishwarya Rai's secretary Hari Singh about this incident," added Prasad.
Meanwhile, Hari Singh claimed that the parcel was 'news to me' in the morning. Later, he refused to answer calls.
What means surprising is that Ash, like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, is one of the highest tax payers of the country. According to a report, she paid about Rs 4 crore as taxes on earnings of Rs 15 crore in 2005.
In 2003, she paid taxes of Rs 2.45 crore on an income of Rs 6.25 crore.

Ash-Abhishek to wed in 2007?
A still from Umrao JaanThe marriage of top Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai is certain to take place in February 2007, according to Bachchan family astrologer Chandrashekhara Swamiji.
He has revealed this news to highly circulated Kannada newspaper Vijayakarnataka.
Swamiji, who lives in his ashram in Bangalore's RT Nagar, is astrologer to many film personalities including Dr Raj Kumar's family and producer Rockline Venkatesh. According to sources, Aishwarya and Abhishek visited the Swami several times during the Karnataka schedule of their film Guru, directed by Mani Ratnam.
The film was shot in Hospet and several places in Northern Karnataka, and the couple visited the Swamiji to consult him on many matters, including a probable marriage date. The Swami is believed to have scrutinised the celestial birthday Jathakas of the couple before giving them his advice.
Chandrashekhara Swamiji has been in regular contact with the Bachchans. He has reportedly also conducted havans and poojas for the family's well being. Apparently, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan also visited the ashram a year ago.
Swamiji has revealed that Aishwarya will probably make an announcement of her marriage on November 1, her birthday. According to the report, Aishwarya (born in Dhanu Rashi) and Abhishek (born in Kumbha Rashi) could have had some problems. The marriage was likely to face roadblocks in 2006, the astrologer had felt.
But, from October 27, when the planetary positions change, both Ash and Abhi will have the support of Jupiter (Guru-bruhaspathi).
The Swami, who has closely studied Ash's Jathaka, feels that the number eight is not compatible for her and marriage in 2006 -- which adds up to 8 -- would have led to trouble for the couple. 'That is why I advised them to marry in 2007,' he explains, 'which adds up to 9, a lucky number for both Aishwarya and Abhishek.'

Abhishek and Ash to wed in february?

The rumour mills are spinning at full speed with specualtions that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are planning on getting married in February 2007. We really don't know how much truth there is to these rumours or whether it's a publicity stunt to promote both JP Dutta's Umrao Jaan and Mani Ratnam's Guru. It seems as though the fact that in spite of both Ash and Abhishek being in Mumbai, they have been separately promoting Umrao Jaan as opposed to making appearances together adding more fuel to the fire. Is there more to this than rumours?

Dhoom 2 - Story and pictures of the eagerly awaited movie
A tough yet sharp super cop ACP Jai Dixit (Bachchan Jr) is all this and more. A Super Cop with a mission... to put an end to crime. As always he believes that it is his job to eliminate crime, not the criminal. A no-nonsense police officer, he fights his battle against all odds and leads from the front.
His latest assignment - Mr. 'A' - an international thief. How do you catch a thief who leaves behind no clues...no one has ever seen.
Jai Dixit has a plan. He rises up to the challenge and is soon on the trail of the Master Thief.
But has he finally met his match?
Sunehri (Aish), the "golden girl" treats every opportunity as a golden chance. She stays in the suburbs of Mumbai, but dreams big. She dreams of Amsterdam, of Australia, of America!
Spunky, spontaneous and sexy, Sunehri lives life one day at a time. The possibility of danger never enters her sharp, yet innocent mind. And that is probably because nothing really bad has ever happened to her. But the most significant event that does occur is when Aryan comes into her life.
From that moment her life takes a new turn; actually a couple of turns. The resulting 'spin' takes her on a ride she won't forget in a hurry.
ACP Shonali Bose (Bipasha Basu) is attractive, intelligent, vivacious, honest, sexy, hardworking, beautiful and an awesome dancer.
All these qualities not being any kind of pre-requisite, she is a police officer. ACP Shonali Bose is a cop and a damn good one.
Like her college mate Jai Dixit, she too works in great detail to get into the mind of the criminal. And that's what she has done for the last two years. She is an expert on Mr. 'A.'
Having won many medals for being the best sharpshooter in the force, it can be said that she never misses her target. The only difference between her and Jai is that she wouldn't think twice before shooting a criminal. Nothing personal... it's just what she believes - one criminal dead is one criminal less!
He works alone!
He trusts no one!
No one has seen him!
He pulls off the most daring and impossible heists. He comes out of nowhere and disappears without a trace. Police all around the world are baffled. His methods are innovative and modern. His planning, flawless.
He's cool, he's hot. He's smooth yet tough. With looks that could make any woman go weak in the knees, there is finesse in everything he does. A connoisseur, he has style and a fine taste for all the things in life; be it food, wine or clothes.
He is Aryan. He is the elusive Mr. "A"! (Hrithik)
His "Mummy" is definitely watching over him as his guardian angel. But Ali (Uday Chopra) still doesn't take his life too seriously. Although, he is now a police officer and Jai Dixit's partner, the equation between them is still the same. He still loves riding his bike. He still falls in love with every woman he meets! And he still gets regularly reprimanded by Jai Dixit. He still has his yellow bike and still feels very much at home in Jai's house. He still believes that life is simple and that it is we who complicate it. He still has a big heart and a smile that is even bigger. And it is still true that he and Jai make a great team. He is fiercely loyal to Jai and if push comes to shove, he will go to any extent to fight for him.
Ali's (Uday Chopra) dream of becoming a police officer has come true. He is now ACP Jai Dixit's (Bachchan Jr) right hand man. Together, they are trying to keep a tight leash on crime in India. Little do they know what they are going to be up against.
Enter Aryan - Mr. A (Hrithik Roshan) - a hi-tech international thief. After pulling off a series of impossible heists all over the world, his next target is Mumbai. The case is given to ACP Jai and Ali.
Helping them put the pieces of the puzzle together is ACP Shonali Bose (Bipasha Basu), Jai's college mate, now a police officer in her own right. For the last two years Shonali has been tracking these amazing thefts and is now an expert on this thief, whom no one has seen.
Once in Mumbai, Mr. A finds his match in Sunehri (Aishwarya Rai), a petty yet clever thief. She makes him an offer he finds very hard to refuse. A partnership! Aryan accepts.
And so the game begins - a game of cat and mouse - a game of good v/s bad. 'The cops' - Jai, Shonali and Ali v/s Aryan and Sunehri - 'the robbers'.
'Dhoom 2' is full of never-seen-before action sequences, hi-tech heists, breathtaking hi-speed chases, non-stop laughter and excitement.
