Rediff.com goofs up with KBC's rollover contestant's photograph, readers respond
Lucky rollover contestant, from AB's KBC to SRK's KBCPratim Gupta
Who is the only link between Amitabh Bachchan’s KBC and Shah Rukh Khan’s KBC? A Calcuttan in the hot seat! And it has been a roller-coaster ride spanning 15 months for the rollover contestant.
October 2005: Kasba’s Prasenjit Sarkar gets a call from STAR Plus to participate in the studio show of Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya after clearing the three preliminary stages.
November 2005: Prasenjit shoots with Amitabh Bachchan, but after winning Rs 80,000, the episode ends because of lack of time.
March 2006: With the ailing Bachchan out of the game, Prasenjit is given the option to quit and take home the Rs 80,000 or wait till a new season of the show is announced. Prasenjit chooses to wait.
December 2006: Prasenjit gets a call from STAR Plus to return to the new show, to be hosted by Shah Rukh Khan.
January 22, 2007: Prasenjit becomes the first contestant of the SRK-hosted KBC and also the only one ever to be quizzed by both Bachchan and Shah Rukh.
So, the 39-year-old inspector of central excise and customs is on the brink of making game-show history.
When he takes the studio hot seat “this weekend” for the January 22 launch episode, he will “almost surely” be the first Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (KBC is an adaptation) contestant in 106 countries to have faced two quizmasters.
And that too, Big B and King Khan.
“I know as the rollover contestant, I am the only link between the two KBCs,” Prasenjit said at his Ruby Park residence. “I am happy I took the right decision by not quitting the game and waiting for more than a year for the show to restart.”
And when Prasenjit was flown in for a mock shoot a couple of days back, Shah Rukh welcomed him to the hot seat as “Babumoshai” — rewinding to his Devdas and his predecessor’s Anand days! But when asked to choose his favourite quizmaster, Prasenjit went 50:50.
“I am a huge fan of Mr Bachchan but thanks to my 12-year-old son, I also like Shah Rukh a lot... And whatever little I saw of him as the host, puro jomiye debe!”

The article says "Prasenjit Sarkar will become part of Indian television history.
The 39-year-old inspector with Central Excise was in the hot seat before Amitabh Bachchan when KBC went off air in 2005"
The photo beside the photo is definitely not of a 39 year old man...

Video of Amitabh Bachchan Reciting The 'India Poised' Anthem
Amitabh Bachchan Reciting The 'India Poised' Anthem
video powered by Metacafe
The Times of India's christening of 2007 as the 'Year of India' and the ensuing six-week long 'India Poised' campaign. Amitabh Bachchan, the Bollywood MegaStar who was voted 'Indian of the Year' in 2005 and again in 2006 in a TOI poll, launched the campaign. The backdrop for the film is the under-construction Bandra-Worli Sealink (like San Franscisco's famous Golden Gate). The sealink which is otherwise a restricted zone.

Why Shah Rukh's KBC logo is red
Dec 6 2006
Shah Rukh Khan seemed to be in an unbelievably good mood at the press meet for Kaun Banega Crorepati in Mumbai. Not only did he crack jokes but he also responded with characteristic humour to questions like 'Why is the KBC logo in your case red, while it was blue in Amitabh Bachchan's version?'
Sample Khan's response to this: "Amitji is like God in our industry and we keep him above everyone else. His stature is as high as the sky. And thus, the color is blue. In my case, I am desh ka Lal, thus the colour is red!"
Quite innovative, one must say.
Ash, Salman patch up ?
The impossible may have happened!
Looks like Aishwarya Rai and former boyfriend Salman Khan have patched up. Or at least come to a truce.
It all took place at the premiere of Baabul on December 6, when the film's cast, Salman, Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, made a grand entry.
Ash -- who has made it a major point to avoid Sallu, films with him and all engagements the actor was attending, after they broke up four years ago -- surprise, surprise, looking very glam in black, came sweeping into the premiere.
The media nearly fell out of their chairs.
A source tells us there was a significant exchange of glances between Salman and Ash. Amitabh was standing by, probably as the broker of peace.
Salman was seen chatting with Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan. Salman obviously gets along better with Abhishek than he did with Ash's previous beau, Vivek Oberoi!
Meanwhile, John Abraham, who also stars in Baabul, arrived at the premiere only after Salman made an exit. No doubt, there is no patch up on that front.

Jiah to do Shakira act in Nishabd
Mumbai, December 6, 2006
Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma's discovery Jiah Khan will do a Shakira act, complete with belly dancing, in Nishabd that also stars Amitabh Bachchan.
The producers are apparently going to record the special song soon. "And boy, she can really dance," said a source.
Not surprising, because Jiah is professionally trained in reggae, lambada, jazz, samba, kathak, belly dancing and salsa.
Since films have always been her passion, she also attended a famous film institute in the US where they teach method acting.
In fact, she also wrote and composed music in collaboration with her friends when she was only 16.

New Jai of Sholay is 6'3" tall, very intimidating personality
Ram Gopal Varma has roped in a rank new comer to play the character made famous by Big B in ‘Sholay’
He prefers just being called Raj and he’s the new face that Ram Gopal Varma has decided to cast as Jai in his version of ‘Sholay’. Ramu says, “I took an audition for the role. I wanted someone who looked like he is made for the role and Raj seems like just the right person.”
Ramu says Raj, who stands tall at 6’3”, has a very intimidating personality. “When he enters a room, he fills it up. You can’t escape his presence,” he claims. Ask him what Raj has that Mohit doesn’t and Ramu simply says, “It is all related to the character, the way it is written. It might not be seen in someone who might have done 50 films, but might be seen in someone who’s raw. In this sense, I felt Mohit did not fit the role.”
Amitabh Bachchan had played Jai in the original ‘Sholay’. In Ramu’s Sholay, Ajay Devgan will be playing Veeru and Amitabh Bachchan will play Gabbar Singh.

KBC: Shah Rukh more expensive than Big B, charges more than double .... ?
Onkar Singh in New Delhi, Rediff.com
November 27, 2006 16:09 IST
We now know that Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in to replace Amitabh Bachchan in Star TV's popular game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. But what you might not know is that the channel has signed SRK with a huge hike in the fee.
Sources close to the proceedings also say Union Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar played a major role in swinging the deal in SRK's favour.
"I am not sure about the exact amount, but it is more than double [of Bachchan's fee]," a source said.
"There are two reasons for changing the anchor. One, the TRP [television ratings] had fallen from five to six in KBC's second season. The other reason was to target a younger audience," the source added.
Anita Kaul Basu, wife of KBC's producer Siddharth Basu, says, "The shooting will begin in the last week of December or early January. It will be telecast from mid-January. Initially, we will be shooting 52 episodes."
Aishwarya-Abhishek, a married couple ?
Varanasi, November 27, 2006
Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai kept rumours of their impending marriage alive on Monday by performing rituals done only by married couples in two major temples of the city.
The couple, which arrived in the city late Sunday, went from one temple to another to perform the rituals in the dead of night.
A local journalist, who sneaked into the heavily guarded Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the guise of a priest, witnessed the rituals that began at around 3 a.m. and continued till nearly 6 a.m. Two rituals were performed at the temple and one at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple nearby.
"The rudrabhishek puja performed by the duo in the presence of the entire Bachchan family is usually done by married couples only," said a temple priest who did not wish to be identified.
Family priest Chandramouli Upadhyaya, who was the first to call on the Bachchan family at the Taj Ganges hotel shortly after their arrival, told media persons: "The family was here to perform certain prayers on the birth anniversary of Amitabh's father, famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan."
However, when scribes sought to know what Aishwarya had to do with such a closed family affair, he said: "I don't know."
Bollywood's first family arrived here by a chartered flight around 10.20 p.m. and were huddled into waiting vehicles and driven straight to the Taj from the airport's rear gate to avoid inquisitive media persons and cameramen.
Upadhyaya visited them after they reached the hotel. Later, at around 2.30 a.m., senior district officials escorted the family to Kashi Vishwanath Temple where priest Pandit Sitaram Shastri carried out a special mangala aarti for them, which was followed by the rudrabhishek puja.
Besides Amitabh, his actress-turned-MP wife Jaya, daughter Shweta, brother Ajitabh and niece Namrata were amongst those who joined in the prayers. Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, who had arrived with the entourage, was present as well.
At around 4.30 a.m., they left for the Sankat Mochan temple and attended a nearly hour-long aarti there.
They were surrounded by an extremely tight security ring comprising local police and personnel from the Sahara India group.
The entourage returned to the hotel at around 6 a.m. While Abhishek and Aishwarya are scheduled to leave for Agra, Amitabh, Jaya and the others are to flying back to Mumbai, a local official said.

KBC: Shah Rukh to replace Big B
November 26, 2006 16:29 IST, Rediff
Amitabh Bachchan fans are in for a disappointment but admirers of Shahrukh Khan can rejoice as he will take over from Big B as host of the hugely popular TV game show "Kaun Banega Crorepati".
Shahrukh said he was "pleasantly surprised" when the STAR network offered him the show but admitted it would be "a huge act to follow" in the footsteps of Amitabh, who made "KBC" one of the country's most watched TV programmes.
Samir Nair, CEO of the Star India channel that airs the show, told PTI in Mumbai, "Mr Bachchan expressed his disinclination to do the show and we respect his decision. We are indebted to him for what he brought to the show but now it is time to move on and who better to hand over the baton to than Shah Rukh Khan.
"We have been in talks with Shah Rukh Khan for over a month now and he expressed his willingness to do the show. Shooting will begin by December-end and we expect this season to be on air by January-end," Nair said.
Shah Rukh Khan was quoted in a Star India release as saying, "I was pleasantly surprised when STAR offered me the show. I was a participant in season one of KBC... and little did I know one day I would be hosting it.

The hugely popular show, characterised by Bachchan's baritone and personality, was in its second season when it had to be cut short due to the star's sudden illness.
Since then Star had been in talks with Bachchan for the next season of the show based on "Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire", but those fell through.
Nair said the contract with Shahrukh would be for two seasons with an option to extend it further if required. He declined to comment on the pay for Shahrukh, saying, "It is adequate."
"Shahrukh will bring to the show boundless energy and his own unique personality that will make it a new KBC all together. We will not be calling this season three in particular.
"However contestants who were not allowed to participate in the second season will be allowed to compete in this season," he said.

‘Baabul’ movie images: A sneak peak!

Baabul is all about happiness over traditions. One should respect traditions, but not shut the doors to life because of it. The movie is from the makes of 'Baghban'

Despite his domineering presence, Balraj Kapoor is humility personified. He is a loving husband, a friendly father and an ideal father-in-law. For him nothing is above the true happiness of heart.

Shobhna is the better half of Balraj Kapoor. Though she may snub her husband and son at times, her heart is full of love for them both.

Rajat is a close friend of Malvika. Like her, he also has interest in arts. His passion is for music. And his love is only expressed through his songs

Avinash is a bundle of energy. The only son of Balraj and Shobhna, he is buoyant, vivacious and love-struck. He persists at winning the love of the woman he desires, and he succeeds also.

Beautiful Malvika has a penchant for painting. She has a very clean heart that makes clear distinction between love and friendship. And when she loves, she commits for her lifetime.

'Babul' is the story of a father-in-law who goes against tradition to set a remarriage of his widowed daughter-in law. Amitabh Bachchan and Rani play the respective roles. Salman plays her husband who dies in an accident. John Abraham plays Rani's friend who wants to marry her after she is widowed.

Amitabh turns composer for 'Baabul'
Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan is humming a new tune in his ready-to-release "Baabul" and says it is a tune from his past that kept playing in his mind. Unfortunately, however, the album was finally released sans the song.
"I just thought I'd use it here because it fitted in so well. I played around with the notes and came up with this song for 'Baabul'. In fact, I recorded the song just a couple of days ago.
"In Ravi Chopra's 'Baghban' I had sung four numbers. In 'Baabul' I've recorded two. Earlier, I had recorded a happy number. But the pensive sombre number which I've just recorded is actually composed by me," said Amitabh, who doesn't seem bitter about the song being left out of the album.
Amitabh still insists he isn't much of a singer.
"What I like is to met up with Aadesh Shrivastava, sit around in his music room and fool around with the notes. In 'Baabul' for the first time I've contributed to a tune. Obviously the orchestral arrangements are Aadesh's. But the theme song 'Kehta hoon babul o mere bitiya' in 'Baabul' is tuned and sung by me.
"Earlier, in 'Baghban' two of the songs - the Holi song and also parts of 'Meri makhna' were mine. But in 'Baabul' the full theme song (written by Sameer) is mine," the Big B told IANS.
