Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes came out as a couple on April 29, 2005, in Rome, when Cruise boldly told the world that she was an "extraordinary woman" and smooched Holmes at the David di Donatello ceremony (the Italian equivalent of the Oscars). Later they enjoyed quieter moments, sharing codfish, artichokes and a little privacy during a dinner at the Piperno restaurant.

The actor Tom Cruise and his third wife, Katie Holmes, were honeymooning in the Maldives today after getting married in a lavish ceremony in a castle in Italy at the weekend.

According to guests, the bride and groom and their seven-month-old baby wore Armani for the ceremony, which beganwith the former Top Gun star walking down a stone ramp lined with flag-bearers wearing medieval costume. Holmes, bearing a bouquet of white lilies, was escorted by her father.

The couple exchanged vows in a former stable in a Scientology rite not legally recognised in Italy but witnessed by 150 friends and family.

At the reception afterwards, in the 15th century Odescalchi castle near Rome, they were serenaded by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and thousands of red rose petals cascaded down on them as they cut a wedding cake flown in from the US.

Guests included Brooke Shields, Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey and Victoria Beckham and the wedding ended with a fireworks display. The couple's publicist said afterwards that the couple had already ``legalised'' their marriage in Los Angeles.

Fans and residents of the lakeside town of Bracciano, where the event was held, had waited in vain to see a glimpse of the couple. The town's mayor said she was ``disappointed'' that after the inconveniences suffered by townspeople the couple had not thought to make a personal appearance before wellwishers.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are now husband and wife. The couple exchanged vows Saturday in a Scientology ceremony at the Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy, their rep confirms to PEOPLE.

With a top-tier Hollywood guest list inside the castle, and thousands of fans, photographers and TV cameras watching from afar, Cruise and Holmes's wedding capped off a whirlwind week in Italy with their families and celeb friends. Joining them for the celebration: Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy, Victoria and David Beckham, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, and Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, among others.

Saturday's wedding started on a damp note, with scattered rain throughout the morning. Holmes and 7-month-old daughter Suri were escorted into the castle under a cluster of green umbrellas. A little over an hour later, the groom was escorted from the Hassler hotel in Rome to Lake Bracciano 18 miles away. With the sun going down, candles lit up the perimeter of the 15th-century castle as limousines carrying the guests drove through the gates.

Still, there might be one last hoop to jump through before their marriage is legal. Patrizia Riccioni, the mayor of Bracciano, Italy, told PEOPLE that the couple must be married in a civil ceremony in the town to make it official. As of Saturday evening, that hadn't happened yet. "Maybe they will have something official in the U.S.," she speculated.

Either way, Saturday's ceremony brought the couple's 19-month romance full circle: Cruise and Holmes first stepped out as a couple in Rome in April 2005, with Cruise already referring to Holmes as "amore mio" just a few weeks after their first date (sushi, a private plane ride and a motorcycle trip to the beach).

Holmes wasn't shy about her feelings either. "(I'm) totally in love. He's amazing, he's kind, he's generous. He made me laugh like I've never laughed," she gushed two months later. "I feel like he's made my life."

Life changed even more in mid-June 2005. During a late-night candlelit dinner at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Cruise proposed with a five-carat diamond ring. "I want to marry her as soon as possible," Cruise announced. "You have to do what you feel is right," he told PEOPLE at the time. "It's (about) your own integrity and how you want to live your life."

The pair had another reason to celebrate in October, when they announced they were expecting a baby. Holmes "almost seems born for motherhood," her pal and former Dawson's Creek costar Oliver Hudson told PEOPLE. "She's a nurturer."

The pair welcomed 7-lb., 7-oz. Suri on April 18. "The moment I looked in her eyes I felt like ... Mom," Holmes told the magazine of her new bundle of joy. "She's the miracle of our life."

The countdown for one of Hollywood's most anticipated weddings has begun.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes arrived in Italy, with their infant daughter Suri, to get married at the Orsini Odescalchi Castle in the lakeside town of Bracciano, located 25 minutes north of Rome, on November 18.

A day before the big event, Cruise threw a lavish party for his Hollywood friends at a resturant called Ristorante Nino in Rome.



Jim Carrey and his girlfriend Jenny McCarthy were spotted leaving the restaurant holding the big bash.



This will be the second wedding for Cruise's adopted children Connor and Isabella.

Earlier this year, they went for their mother Nicole Kidman's wedding to country singer Keith Urban in Sydney, Australia.

In the picture, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony attend the Cruise bash.



Brook Shields was a surprise guest at Cruise's party.

Cruise recently blasted her when she used pills to fight her post-natal depression after the birth of her daughter Rowan.

The actor, who is a strong believer of Scientology, claims to have helped people fight drug addictions and stated that the actress should have used vitamins, not drugs.

The duo have obviously patched up.

Tom Cruise's fiancée Kate Holmes is all set to please her hubby-to-be with her sexy set of lingerie, for she recently went on a shopping spree for sensual underwear.

According to the Scoop, Katie spent over $3,000 on a recent visit to Le Bra Lingerie, a store in West Hollywood.

"They weren't all white - and they certainly weren't virginal. But she's a mom, so I guess that's appropriate," a shopper was quoted by the bosh.com as saying.

The gossip column reports that a good third of the money that Katie spent went towards a "Chantilly lace bridal collection," which included a $340 thong, a $440 bra, a $220 garter belt and $95 stockings.

In addition, Holmes picked up a silk nightgown and robe set that cost $620, a $380 bra and $175 thong each with Swarovski crystals - and two PJ and robe sets for $425.

The couple’s rep, Arnold Robinson, confirms the wedding will take place November 18 in Italy — “All those details are correct,” he said, adding that “proper security measures are being taken to keep the vows private.”

Strolling… Down the AisleThe invites are just the latest detail scratched off the couple’s “I do” to-do list. Italian designer Giorgio Armani has confirmed that he will create Katie Holmes’ wedding dress.

“When I am asked by a friend to make a wedding wardrobe, it goes straight to my heart,” Armani, who will also whip up Cruise’s wedding wear, said. “It really is an honor to play a small role in that milestone moment.”
