Man convicted for outraging woman's modesty

RAICHUR: The principal session's court on Friday convicted Somashekhar of Kakatnoor in Sindhanoor Taluk of Raichur and held him responsible for the suicide of a Harijan woman.
Judge Radha Krishna Holla pronounced the verdict. The accused was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for outraging the modesty of the woman.
The case dates back to April 1999 and the incident had forced the woman to commit suicide under the limits of Sindhanoor Rural police Station.
Special public prosecutor Siddalingappa Boreddy argued on behalf of the prosecution saying on April 7, 1999 around 11.00 am in Kataknoor village the accused accosted the victim and outraged her modesty.
The accused also spoke ill of her caste and threatened her, the public prosecutor added.
Unable to bear the humiliation, the woman later committed suicide by setting herself ablaze.
A case was registered in the Sindhanoor Rural police station.
